That Time of Year

Its that time of year January again, dark both in the mornings and evenings oh how I look forward to spring. The weather to-day is much more pleasant than it has been for the past few weeks and the sun is shinning. This is the time when I look out at my tiny green house and start to imagine it full of healthy tomato and cucumber plants., and the time when I get out all my little packets of seeds and plan where in the garden I am going to put the plants.

I only have a small back garden but manage to cram it full of lettuce,beans,peas etc and always am able to go out on any day a pick a big bowl of goodies for dinner. At the moment it is a bare patch of ground but when I look out I can see it full of healthy plants, with roses climbing over the wooden arch and lavendar tumbling over the path so when you brush past the lovely perfume fills the air.
I can also imagine sitting out with my favourite cappucino coffee and enjoying the bird song and watch the little fellows having a bath in my small pond.

Then, of course, there is all the pots to fill with flowers and vegetables, yes you can grow veg in pots if you have not got alot of land to fill. Enough of the dreaming I had better get on planting some seeds

Haunted Pub in Sale,Cheshire

I have decided to start with a pub which has a true life ghost story attached to it and not only that it serves good food as well.
The pub in question is in Sale, Cheshire and it is called Jackson's Boat.
It is situated on the banks of the River Mersey so its a nice venue in the summer when you can sit outside in the big beer garden.
In the beginning there was a ferry that operated at this point to ferry people over the Mersey to the next village and the owner of the ferry was a Mr Jackson, hence the name of the pub today.
There has been a building on this site for about 300 years now although the present building is not the original. There is a lot of history attached to this pub, Bonnie Prince Charlie was said to have stayed there on his way to Derby when Scotland was at war with England.
The local paper ran an article recently when the local ghost hunters asked the landlord if they could spend the night there to record any happenings. They drew a blank that night although the landlord reports that there is sometimes a banging on the door at the dead of night especially on cold windy nights and when he looks out of the window there is no-one there.

Reflections

I feel very lucky to have been born when I was, growing up in the 50's and being a teenager in the 60's.
I was 16 when the Beatles hit the scene with their first hit record and I remember being at the Palaise when it was first played.
I did actually get to see them live at the Odeon in Nottingham. At the time you usually had to stand in a queue to buy tickets but the Nottingham Council did not like this idea so you had to apply in writing for tickets. My boyfriend, later to become my husband, wrote in for a couple of tickets and we were lucky enough to get two.
So on the day I finished work and quickly went to the bus stop to get the bus over from Leicester, where I lived, to Nottingham. It was very exciting and the Odeon was packed out with all teenage girls. As soon as the fab four arrived on stage the noise was deafening and everyone screamed the whole way through the concert, we never actually heared them sing at all.
Anyway as the last bus left at 10 o'clock we did leave before the end and made our way to the bus station and so off back to Leicester.
The expericence has lived with me ever since, how extremely lucky we were.
